Intro
Los Angeles officially renamed Hyde Park Station at Crenshaw and Slauson the Nipsey Hussle Metro Station. The move honors the late rapper and community leader on what would have been his 40th birthday.
Nipsey Hussle Metro Station and Community Recognition
The renaming of Hyde Park to the Nipsey Hussle Metro Station is part of Metro’s cultural project. Moreover, it shows how public infrastructure can preserve local identity. For residents of South L.A., the change cements Nipsey’s legacy not only in music but also in the community he helped build.

Commemorative TAP Cards at the Nipsey Hussle Station
Alongside the station renaming, Metro released two limited edition TAP cards featuring Nipsey Hussle. In addition, only 12,000 cards were printed, making them a collector’s item. One design shows a portrait of Nipsey at Crenshaw and Slauson, while another depicts him on a Metro bus in Watts. As a result, these designs tie his memory directly to the city he loved.

Why the Nipsey Hussle Station Matters
The Nipsey Hussle Metro Station ensures his influence lives on. Furthermore, the station serves as a permanent reminder of empowerment in South Los Angeles. Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson explained, “From Slauson and all the way to Vernon, you will see world-class pieces of art, celebrating the history and the legacy of African American people.”
Finally, this recognition proves that Nipsey’s dedication to his neighborhood remains as strong as his music. Each rider who passes through the station will be reminded of the man who turned Crenshaw into a symbol of pride and progress.
